Ovulation Test: How Does It Work?

The ovulation test serves to check the day of ovulation within the menstrual cycle and to detect the fertile period of the woman. It is not the same as a pregnancy test.

The ovulation test is a qualitative test, indicated for use to measure the increase of the hormone lh in the urine, and to predict the time of probable ovulation.

When the test result is positive, it indicates that it is nearing the time of ovulation, ensuring that it is within the period of higher fertility and, therefore, is the best time for fertilization. By knowing these data, it is easier to find the perfect time to try to get pregnant.

We explain better how works this test, in this article.

OVULATION TEST: CLARIFICATION ESSENTIAL

HOW DOES THE OVULATION TEST?

Ovulation occurs when the egg is released from a woman’s ovaries. The egg passes to the fallopian tubes, where one prepares to be fertilized.
In order for the woman to become pregnant, the egg must be fertilised by a sperm within 24 hours following the ovulation. Previously, the body produces a greater amount of luteinizing hormone (LH).

The increase in the amount of LH develops the ovulation. The test works as a method which helps to predict the time of ovulation and peak fertility and, therefore, the best period to get pregnant.

HOW TO COLLECT URINE SAMPLES?

To collect the samples and perform the ovulation test, you must comply with the following procedure:

  1. Collect the urine every day at the same time. The sample should be placed in a clean, dry container plastic or glass;

  3. Reduce fluid intake 2 hours prior to collection of the sample;
  4. The test should be done immediately after the collection of urine.
