Artificial Insemination: How Does This Technique Work?

Artificial insemination is a technique of reproduction medically assisted. Learn what distinguishes it from other techniques of assisted reproduction.

The artificial insemination is a technique of assisted reproduction in which fertilization occurs inside the woman’s body, as would naturally occur after sexual intercourse, not being necessary the removal of their eggs.

This technique differs from in vitro fertilization, in which the meeting of the egg and the sperm, or fertilization, occurs in laboratory, the embryo is placed later in the uterus.

There are two forms of artificial insemination: intracervical and intra-uterine.

The whole process of artificial insemination attempts, to the maximum, to facilitate the meeting of egg with sperm.

HOW TO DIFFERENTIATE ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION, INTRA-CERVICAL INTRA-UTERINE?

In insemination, intra-cervical, what happens is a simulation of what occurs in sexual intercourse normal. The sperm cells are deposited directly on the cervix the female (the entry of the uterus through the vagina or the cervix).

This method is suitable for situations where it is not possible to vaginal penetration by the partner, as in the cases of sexual impotence or some other disorder, whether male or female, that can prevent this stage of the relationship.

In the method, intra-uterine, allows the sperm to be injected directly into the uterus, increasing the chances of encounter of this with the egg there present. In addition, it does not require the presence of vaginal mucus in adequate quantity and quality for the pregnancy.

In this last one, before the deposit within the female body, the seminal fluid passes through a treatment in the laboratory, in which the sperm of better quality are selected, for later to be used in the treatment.

Another critical step is ovarian stimulation, that is to say, the intake of medication, on the part of the woman, which stimulates the production of ova, with the aim of speeding the chances of meeting between the ovum and the sperm.

WHAT IS THE SUCCESS RATE OF THIS TECHNIQUE?

Artificial insemination has a success rate that varies between 10% and 20%.

Like any other therapy reproduction medically assisted, can be influenced by several aspects of the life of each couple, as the style of life, food, addictions, medication, diseases, among other factors.

IS THERE ANY CONDITION TO BE ABLE TO PERFORM ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION?

The patient who wishes to resort to the method of artificial insemination must have at least one fallopian tube to the uterine normal.

Once the fertilization of the sperm in the egg, occurs in the interior of the horn, the tuba uterine should allow for the meeting of the egg and the sperm, without difficulties.

Already the man must have at least 5 million motile sperm progressive for each ML. The semen analysis allows to evaluate the quantity and quality of sperm. When your mobility is below 40%, and strict morphology Kruger is below 5%, the chance of success of artificial insemination decreases considerably.

WHO CAN DO THE ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION?

The groups of people who normally undergo this treatment, are:

  • Couples without an accurate diagnosis, with all of the normal subjects, the so – called cases of sterility without apparent cause, or infertility unexplained;
